- 2015 Hall of Fame |
Louis Young was a three sport star for the Stanley County Buffalos,
participating in football, basketball and track. He was awarded the
1985 Senior Athlete of the Year Award for the Buffalos. Besides
being a great athlete, Louis was a very unselfish and versatile
player, according to head football coach Dave Tate. Team injuries
forced Louis to play many positions his senior year, and he averaged
246 all-purpose yards per game. His gridiron skill was known
statewide, and he was named to the Class 9A All-State Football Team.
Louis also excelled on the defensive side of the football, forcing
nine turnovers, intercepting four passes and recovering five
fumbles. Two of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
Louis was also a two-time, all-conference performer and a two-time
team captain. Louis’ athletic skills were not limited to the field,
however, as he was named Offensive MVP for the 1984-85 boy’s
basketball team. In track, Louis excelled as well, placing multiple
times at the State Track Meet. He was a member of the Medley relay
team that placed 4th and the 800 meter relay team that finished 6th
in the State of South Dakota. As a senior, Louis was honored with
the Rod Louder Award, recognizing his athletic determination and
success. Following his outstanding prep career, Louis continued his
football career at Black Hills State University. Louis remains
actively involved in high school sports and has spent many seasons
as a certified official. His credits as a referee include hundreds
of high school games, three state football championship games and
two state basketball tournaments. |
