Dave Tate is being inducted into the Stanley County Athletic Hall of Fame for his years of coaching service to Stanley County athletics.  Coach Tate’s coaching career has spanned over 30 years and has included head track, assistant basketball & wrestling coach, but his greatest successes came as the head football coach.

During his years as the Buffs football coach, Tate’s teams compiled a 177–62 record while competing in both nine-man and 11-man programs.  In 1986, Stanley County won the 9A State Championship and under Tate’s guidance, finished as State 11B runner-up 4 times (1989, 1990, 1995, 1998).  The Buffs also won 5 straight Three Rivers Conference Titles and one SESD title. Coach Tate had 45 All-State players, several 2-time All-Staters and one player who was named the MVP of the championship game in 1986.  He was selected as Regional Coach of the Year 6 times, Northern State University Coach of the Year in 2007, elected to the Huron High School Hall of Fame in 2008 and inducted into the South Dakota Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010.

Coach Tate has also served as a head or assistant coach in the South Dakota High School All-Star Football Game three (3) times and has coached 11 State Track Champions for Stanley County.

Tom Rogers

Tom Rogers is being inducted into the Stanley County Athletic Hall of Fame for his years of coaching service to Stanley County athletics.  Coach Rogers’ coaching career has spanned from 1988 to the present and has included middle school and head varsity football, assistant boys basketball and track, but his greatest successes came as the head girls basketball coach.

During his tenure as the S.C. Lady Buffs basketball coach, Rogers’ teams won 302 games, including many district and regional tournament championships which lead to five (5) state tournament appearances.  His teams finished in the top 4, three (3) times at the South Dakota State ‘A’ Girls Tournament.  Coach Rogers had seven (7) All-State players including one All-American.  He was selected as Regional Coach of the Year 4 times, and was nominated for South Dakota Coach of the Year in 1993-94.  Coach Rogers also coached the SD Girls Basketball All-Stars as the head coach in 1997 and assistant in 2006.

During his first few years at Stanley County, Coach Rogers coached year round with girls basketball in the fall, assistant boys basketball in the winter, and assistant track in the spring.  He was an assistant football coach for the Buffs from 2005-2007 and was head football coach for the Buffs from 2008-2010.

Chance Stoeser
Athlete

Chance was a 4-time place winner at the SD State Wrestling Tourney and set a national record (for that time) with 224 career wins.  While in high school, Chance also set S.C. school records for most state tournament championships (31) and most season & career takedowns.  During the 1994 season, Chance was a South Dakota High School State Wrestling Champion at 135 pounds, a S. D. High School All-Academic member with a 3.83 GPA, and received High School All-American Wrestling honors.     
         
Chance was no stranger to championship competition as he played on two runners-up football teams for the Buffs and on three (3) Post 8 American Legion Baseball teams who placed second at the State Legion Baseball tournaments in 1992, 93 & 94.  After graduation, Chance went on to wrestle at the collegiate level at Augustana University during the mid 1990s and became the first wrestler from Stanley County to earn Collegiate All-American status.

Chance also spent 4 years participating in the S.C. Drama Program and was a member of the Stanley County Spanish & National Honor Societies.
