Launie Rheborg - 2015 Hall of Fame

Launie Rheborg was known to many people as a great football player and an even bigger Buffalo football fan. As a student-athlete, Launie was much more than that. He participated in football, basketball and track while at Fort Pierre High School (1960-64). In his junior and senior years, the Buffalo basketball team won the Little Central Athletic Conference championship as well as the District championship. They ended those seasons 22-3 after defeat in the Region Championship games. Launie’s coach frequently commented on his amazing rebounding skills and his knack for keeping the ball moving on offense. This praise finds support in the many games that Launie had a double-double (more than 10 points and 10 rebounds). Launie was also known as a great football player. He played tight end his senior year, leading the Buffalos to their first perfect season in 31 years. In addition to his conference championship, Launie added the honor of being named to the All-State 8 Man Football Team as a tight end in 1964. Launie was a true three-sport athlete and threw shot put and discus on two Little Central Athletic Conference championship team his junior and senior year.

In addition to athletics, Launie also shined off the field, court and track. He was known for his personality as well as his participation. He was involved in school plays, was a Royalty King candidate and sang in the chorus. Launie also worked on the yearbook and served in the Pep Club. After graduation, Launie attended Dakota Wesleyan University on a football scholarship.

Not only did Launie excel in sports, but he was also the ultimate buffalo fan. If it was football, basketball, or wrestling he was there cheering on the Buffs. Not only was he always on the sidelines during the football games, but many times was at the field watching the team practice. A number of young men said, "Getting a hug from him when he was excited was more painful than the hits they got on the field."
