The Stanley County School District, #57-1, Board of Education 
                met in special session June 30, 2003, 7 P.M. in the computer lab 
                of the elementary building with Gary Johnson, Mary Beth Fravel, 
                John Bucholz, Mitch Norman and John Moisan present.  Also in 
                attendance were Business Manager Kevin Merscheim and Principal 
                Kevin Mutchelknaus.  Visitors included Mary Askren and Craig 
                Rutschke.

                Principal Kevin Mutchelknaus presented the clarification 
                proposal to change the Middle/High School Student Handbook for 
                the 2003-2004 school year.  The honor roll, grade promotions, 
                driving after school, prescription medications and the drug and 
                the alcohol policy were discussed.
                
                
                 
                
                
                The Board discussed the proposed changes to the Elementary 
                Student Handbook as recommended by the Administration.  The 
                Board also reviewed the proposed changes to the School Board 
                Policy Handbook as recommended.
                
                
                 
                
                
                Norman moved, seconded by Bucholz, to adopt the administration 
                recommendations for changes to the Elementary Student Handbook, 
                Middle/High School Student Handbook and the School Board Policy 
                Handbook.  Johnson, Norman, Fravel and Bucholz moved aye.  
                Moisan voted no.
                
                
                 
                
                
                The Middle/High School Student Handbook Drug & Alcohol Policy 
                was discussed in detail.  A proposed draft of a new policy will 
                be presented at the regular July meeting for the Boards review.
                
                
                 
                
                
                The Associated School Boards of South Dakota will present its 
                annual convention in Sioux Falls, SD, August 13, 14 & 15, 2003.  
                Board members Mitch Norman and Gary Johnson will attend.
                
                
                 
                
                
                The Board canvassed the results of the 2003 school board 
                election, held on June 17, 2003.  The results of the election
