The Stanley County School District, #57-1, Board of Education met in Special session October 2, 2012, 5:30 P.M., at the Cafeteria in the K-2 Elementary Building with Sarah Carter, Gary Johnson, Nicole Prince, Tina Titze, and Rick Cronin present. Others in attendance were Superintendent Don Hotalling, Business Manager Jessi Fromm, Principal Michelle Glodt, and Special Education Director Krystal Simons. Visitors were Shirley Swanson, Scott Sikkink, Dean Marske, Derek McTighe, Bob Iverson, Sue Hotalling, John Duffy, Darby Nutter, Lance Nixon, Kevin Carter, Dustin Guerdet, Sara Anderson, CJ Fascar, Slade Weller, and Lee VanDeIdalle. President Carter called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. President Carter led the Pledge of Allegiance. Cronin moved, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the agenda as presented. All voted aye. Dr. Hotalling gave an update on the Milton Browning property and the Northstream Investments property.Mrs. Fromm presented the sealed bids for the JK-5 Building project to Dean Marske and Scott Sikkink with HKG Architects. Dean Marske opened and read the bids. The general contractors were: Heartland Construction Management (Fort Pierre, SD), J.Scull, (Rapid City, SD),Quest Construction (Aberdeen, SD), Sharpe Enterprises (Fort Pierre, SD), Sunkota Construction (Sioux Falls, SD), and Tellinghuisen Construction (Willow Lake, SD).The Board of Education discussed and reviewed the bid amounts and alternates. Johnson moved, seconded by Cronin, to approve the base bid of $4,270,000.00 from Sharpe Enterprises with Alternates 2,3,5, and request more research on Alternate 10, and rejected alternate 9 based on the recommendation of Dr. Hotalling. All voted aye. Alternate 2 is furnishing and installing electronic bleachers in the multi-purpose room for $40,900.00. Alternate 3, is furnishing and installing the additional cabinetry in classrooms 118, 119, 120, 122, 123, 124, 125, 135, 136, 139, and 141 for $15,600.00. Alternate 5 is installing air conditioning in the existing middle school HVAC system, which will include the removal of the existing air handling system and all the work associated with the RTU-1 and HW1, including associated temperatures controls for $66,100.00. Alternative 9 is changing the lighting from florescent to LED fixture for $52,600.00 Alternative 10 is using resilient athletic flooring in the gym in lieu of VCT tile. Johnson
