| The Stanley County 
				School District, #57-1, Board of Education met in regular 
				session January 9, 2006, 5:30 P.M., at the high school learning 
				center with Gary Johnson, Bridget Miller, Darby Nutter, John 
				Bucholz and Mork Norman present. Others in attendance were 
				Superintendent Larry Jaske, Business Manager Kevin Merscheim and 
				Principals Merry Bleeker and Brian Doherty. Visitors were 
				Rebecca Cruse, Arlene Krueger, Roxanne Harms, Linda Clair, Kathy 
				Riedy, Kim Doherty, Teresa Johnson, Derek Runge, Shane Cronin, 
				Craig Rutschke and Hunter Stoeser.
 President Gary Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M.

 The results of the Writing Assessment Test will be presented by 
				Mike Falconer at the regular February Board meeting.
 
 The North Central Association Certification coordinator Kim 
				Doherty reported the date for on-site review for the North 
				Central Accreditation will be April 25 and 26, 2006. The 
				Vocabulary, Math and Discipline Committees are developing 
				strategies for the on-site review.
 
 The next Stanley County School District Math Counts competition 
				will be February 11 at Pierre and will involve eight students.
 
 Miller moved, seconded by Nutter, to approve the open enrollment 
				application for student #5700119980761. All voted aye.
 
 Principal Merry Bleeker reported the school-wide Geography Bee 
				will be January 10 for students in grades four through eight. 
				The snow day of November 28, 2005, has been made-up by the rural 
				schools which will make the last day May 18, 2006. The end of 
				the first semester is January 10, and report cards will be sent 
				home on January 13, 2006. The Writing Assessment Test results 
				will be sent home with the fifth grade students. It was 
				announced that Arlene Krueger has achieved a Masters degree in 
				technology and attended graduation ceremonies in December, 2005. 
				Speech Therapist Jeri Wilcox will be returning from extended 
				leave starting January 11. Peggy Huber was commended for filling 
				the position during the extended leave for Jeri Wilcox.
 
 Principal Brian Doherty reported that the drug dog inspected the 
				school buildings on December 20, 2005, and didnt detect any 
				drugs on the school property. The State Highway Patrol presented 
				a Three D Program training course for students in grades nine 
				through eleven on December 14. The marquee on the Parkview 
				building has been repaired and messages are being displayed. The 
				end of the first semester is January 10, and report cards will 
				be sent to parents in the near future. Brian LaCompte will 
				present the DARE program to students in the eighth grade from 
				February to April. The Governors Conference on the 2010 
				Initiative will be January 24, 2006, and Shawn Flottmeyer will 
				represent Stanley County High School. The curriculum scheduling 
				committee will meet on January 18 to prepare the schedule for 
				the 2006-2007 school year. A parents meeting will be scheduled 
				for students affected by the new graduation requirements set by 
				the State of South Dakota.
 
 Arlene Krueger reported on the One-to-One Laptop Initiative for 
				school technology coordinators workshop. A pilot program will 
				begin next fall and will include teacher in-service training 
				sessions. At the current time, the schools would be responsible 
				for two-thirds, and the State of South Dakota would pay for 
				one-third of the cost of the laptop computers.
 
 Teresa Johnson and Shane Cronin, representing the Right Turn, 
				reported the success of the student services that have been 
				contracted by the Stanley County School District. Next years 
				proposed contract will increase to $9,100 because of the 
				decrease in funding from the South Dakota Department of Labor 
				for the program.
 
 Bucholz moved, seconded by Miller, to continue participation in 
				the Right Turn program for the 2006-2007 school year. All voted 
				aye.
 
 Bucholz moved, seconded by Miller to set the 2006 graduation 
				date as May 21, 2006, at 12 Noon in the Parkview gymnasium. All 
				voted aye.
 
 Superintendent Larry Jaske reported the first meeting of the 
				Board Policy Committee will be February 16, 2006. Superintendent 
				Larry Jaske and Board members John Bucholz and Mork Norman are 
				members of this committee.
 
 Miller moved, seconded by Bucholz, to adopt the following 
				resolution:
 
 RESOLUTION #2-2006  Be It Resolved, the School Board of the 
				Stanley County School District #57-1, in accordance to SDCL 
				13-7-10, hereby approves the next school board election date as 
				June 6, 2006. Voter registration, absentee voting and procedures 
				used in counting ballots shall be in accordance with Title 12 
				except as specifically provided in SDCL 13-7. The Stanley County 
				School Board in accordance with SDCL 13-7-11, hereby approves 
				the following voting precincts and polling places for the 2006 
				school board election:
 
 Precinct #1  Orton School
 Precinct #3  Kirley Hall
 Precinct #14  Hayes Hall
 Precinct #2, 4, 5, 6 & 9  Community & Youth Involved Center
 
 All voted aye.
 
 Superintendent Larry Jaske reported that a board member must be 
				appointed as the legislative representative for the 2006 
				legislative session. The Board appointed President Gary Johnson. 
				A listing of the proposed legislation from the Governor and 
				Department of Education was presented. Superintendent Larry 
				Jaske reported on the National Association of Federally Impacted 
				Schools winter meeting in Santa Barbara, California. The Section 
				8002 reauthorization proposal was voted upon with only few 
				changes. A request from Home Federal Bank in Pierre to offer 
				Stanley County Buffalo checks to customers and to use a buffalo 
				logo was discussed. An update was presented on the Ron Jones 
				Memorial Football Award. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw 
				contest will be at the Parkview Building on January 14, and the 
				Right Turn graduation ceremony will be on January 28 at the 
				Ramkota Inn. The Superintendent search will close on January 20, 
				and a questionnaire will be sent to all applicants that will be 
				used during the interview process.
 
 Bucholz moved, seconded by Miller, to go into Executive Session 
				according to SDCL 1-25-2 for personnel or student reasons at 
				6:54 P.M. All voted aye.
 
 President Gary Johnson declared the Board out of Executive 
				Session at 7:21 P.M.
 
 Bucholz moved, seconded by Nutter, to adjourn at 7:22 P.M. All
