The Stanley County
School District, #57-1, Board of Education met in special
session August 22, 2006, 5:30 P.M., in the High School Library
with Sonny Harrowa, Bridget Miller, Mork Norman, John Duffy and
Darby Nutter present. Others in attendance were Superintendent
Brad Caldwell, Business Manager Kevin Merscheim and Principal
Merry Bleeker. Visitors were Rebecca Cruse, Guy Hunter, Brian
Dozark, Mike Stroup, and Darcy Jones.
President Sonny Harrowa called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M.
President Sonny Harrowa led the pledge of allegiance.
Guy Hunter, representing the Stanley County School District,
Mike Stroup, representing the Pierre School District and Brian
Dozark answered questions pertaining to the proposed the
athletic-trainer contract. The proposal would cost the Stanley
County School $10,000 for the services of an athletic trainer
for the 2006-07 school year. Darcy Jones, representing St.
Mary’s Healthcare Center, reported that miscommunications
between the schools and St. Mary’s Healthcare Center had
occurred and St. Mary’s Healthcare Center may be willing to
help. The Board discussed other options for this service.
Miller moved, seconded by Duffy, to approve the on-field
physician proposal for approximately three months for the fall
season of athletics at a prorated cost base of $3,333.00 and
pursue all options for the winter and spring athletic seasons.
All voted aye.
Duffy moved, seconded by Nutter, to approve the applications for
open enrollment for students #5700119787 and #5700119788 as
recommended by the Superintendent. All voted aye.
Miller moved, seconded by Norman, to approve the Public School
Exemption for the 2006-2007 school year as presented. All voted
aye.
Norman moved, seconded by Miller, to approve the payment to
Iseman Homes, Inc. in the amount of $38,230.00 for the purchase
of the new mobile home at the Orton School. Harrowa, Miller and
Norman voted aye. Duffy and Nutter voted no.
Principal Merry Bleeker reported that because of the increasing
number of first grade students, the class with be split into two
classroom with teachers Barbara Rose and Maria Scott. The full
day kindergarten classes with be taught by Lori Gloe and Vera
Cronin. The elementary computer lab will be combined with the
Title 1 classroom starting with the 2006-07 school year.
Duffy moved, seconded by Miller, to approve the teacher lane
change for Tom Stotts to $30,525.00 for the 2006-07 school year.
All voted aye.
Harrowa moved, seconded by Duffy, to go into executive session
according to SDCL 1-25-2 for personnel reasons at 6:43 P.M. All
voted aye.
President Sonny Harrowa declared the Board out of executive
session at 6:45 P.M.
Norman moved, seconded by Duffy, to adjourn at 6:46 P.M. All
voted aye.
