TITLE IX
TITLE IX - POLICY 1. Introduction The 1972 Education Amendments prohibit
discrimination on the basis of sex. It states: "No person shall, on the basis of
sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be
subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving
federal financial assistance". If any person believes that Stanley County School
District or any part of the school organization has inadequately applied the
principals and/or regulations of Title IX or is in some way discriminatory on
the basis of sex, she/he may bring forward a complaint(s) which shall be
referred to as a grievance to the local Title IX Coordinator at the following

O. Box 370, Fort Pierre, SD 57532-0370 (Updated 8/17/12) 2. Levels for Grievance
Procedure Any person who believes she/he has a valid basis for grievance shall
discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the local Title IX
Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply verbally to
the complainant within five (5) business days. If this reply is not acceptable
to the complainant, she/he may initiate formal procedures according to the
following steps: a. A written statement of the grievance, signed by the
complainant, shall be submitted to the local Title IX coordinator within five
(5) business days of the receipt of answer to the complainant. The coordinator
shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the
complainant within five (5) business days after receipt of the written
statement. b. If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the local
Title IX coordinator, she/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the
School Board within five (5) business days after receipt of the local
coordinator's response. The School Board shall meet with all parties involved,
formulate a conclusion, and respond, in writing, to the complainant within
twenty (20) business days after receipt of the signed statement of appeal. c. If
at this point the grievance has not been satisfactorily settled, further appeal
may be made to the Office of Civil Rights, Region VIII, Department of Health,
Education and Welfare, Federal Building, 1961 Stout Street, Denver, Colorado
80294.
