Terra
Stroup (‘95) excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track at
Stanley County High School. She also set herself apart in a variety
of other co-curricular activities and was a standout student. She
exemplified the definition of student-athlete. Terra was a three-year starter for the Lady Buffs basketball team. She also played in three State A basketball tournaments. In her sophomore season, the Lady Buffalos brought home an 8th place finish. In Terra’s junior and senior State A tournaments, the Lady Buffalos won opening round games and brought home 4th place trophies. Following her senior season, Terra was named a member of the academic all state team and was chosen as an All Star Games participant and an Athlete of the Week. In volleyball, Terra was the Lady Buffalo offensive player of the year for four straight seasons. She was named to numerous all tournament teams throughout central South Dakota and was team captain and most valuable player during her junior and senior seasons. Terra’s volleyball skills were recognized statewide by her selection to the State A all state team. Terra’s work ethic not only revealed itself on the courts, but also in the field. At the 1994 State A track meet she placed 5th in the shot put. In 1995 she placed 4th in the shot put, and her field prowess led Terra to Spain in 1995 to test her skills on the international level. Terra also excelled in the classroom while a student at Stanley County High School. She was a member of the National Honor and Spanish Honor Societies and finished her high school career with a 3.94 GPA. Her combination of athletic and academic integrity earned her recognition as Stanley County’s 1995 Outstanding Female Athlete, as well as netting her the Grandpa Hannum and Rob Louder Memorial Awards. Terra attended the South Dakota School of Mines, where she played basketball and volleyball and continued her hard work in the classroom. The 1995-96 Lady Hard Rockers competed in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament. Terra was on the Dean’s List, participated in drama, and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. She later earned a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development from Pepperdine University and is employed by Boeing Aircraft in Everett, Washington. |
